Project Runway Week 2: We Expect Fashion

Tonight, the remaining fifteen designers were asked to create a special look for this week's guest judge, the very pregnant Rebecca Romjin (she's pregnant with twins!).  Rebecca specifically asked that the designers make a form-fitted chic pregnancy look, but the look could be for any event.
Overall, I was very impressed with the looks this week, but a few "pregnant messes" really stood out.  First, the top three looks.

Shirin was this week's winner with a lovely fitted dress with some very cool stitching (is that even the right word?) AND a kick a$$ jacket to match.
Louise made a sexy negligee dress with lots of detail work, including hand dyed lace.

The final top look was an evening dress made by Althea.  My picture does not do the dress justice.

Ra'mon, Malvin, and Mitchell created this week's losing designs.  Wow.

Ra'mon created this dress, which the judges thought looked like a bowling ball bag:

But nothing could compare to Mitchell and Malvin's designs.

Mitchell went with the Britney Spears running to Starbucks look:

The shorts were very badly constructed and just looked terrible.  After his disaster last week, he's really lucky that androgynous Malvin stepped up with his "mother hen" look.  Although I've never been pregnant, I am positive that no mother has ever hoped to look like a mother hen.  Malvin wanted the baby bump to stand out like an egg, and underneath the "nest" was a shirt made of feathers.  He even wanted to create some sort of chicken thigh pants, but thankfully Tim Gunn encouraged Malvin to rethink that idea.  Here's what Malvin sent down the runway:

As one of our contestants noted, it looks as if Malvin just tied an old bath towel around her stomach.  The judges agreed, and Malvin is out.  Malvin tells the camera he's too "conceptual" for America, so it's probably for the best.

And with Malvin being auf'd, we also say auf wiedersehen to....

   aka, MO!

The boys are just not faring well in the competition.  Gotta step up your game!
