The episode started with the teams learning they would next fly to Indonesia, or simply "Indo" if you're a snowboarder. Because the first flight out wasn't until the next morning, all the teams were on the same flight. No one knew who, if anyone, had been eliminated at the end of the first leg, but they all clapped happily when the oldsters (affectionately known to other racers as "Ma and Pa") showed up. Ethan (Mr. Survivor) said he was especially happy to see them because it was another team they could beat. [This is foreshadowing. Am I supposed to turn this into an English lesson like Molly did?]
Upon arriving in Indo, the teams learn they are to go spelunking in a vertical cave. Before spelunking, Ma and Pa, who somehow arrived at the cave first, had to complete their speed bump, which was untangling a rope. Seriously. It appeared to take them like 3 minutes, though due to video editing it may have been more like 4. Once in the cave, teams were supposed to "find" an indigenous mask and dagger, but the masks and daggers were hanging from large sticks standing in the middle of the cave next to a man beating a giant gong, so that didn't seem too challenging.
After the cave, teams had to choose between one of two detours: 1) learn a traditional dance and beg on the street in weird clothes while your partner plays some odd form of drums, or 2) park scooters for money. Sometimes the race is strict about the whole traditional dance thing, but here the racers didn't really have to learn anything. They basically had to randomly dance, and I'm pretty sure even just standing there would've sufficed.
The teams were instructed to take the money they earned to an orphanage. This was kind of a downer to one of the blonde twins, who commented, "Like thinking about an orphanage is really sad because they don't have parents." Before arriving at the orphanage, the Survivor team lost their clue and had to go back to the dancing challenge and dig through their weird clothes to find it.
At the orphanage, there was a sign written in red and underlined directing the teams to leave all of their money with the orphans. 8 of the 11 teams didn't see this and just left the money they had made at the detour. The snowboarders noticed the sign only after high-fiving each of the orphans (The British father/son and the showgirls also saw the sign). The 8 teams that didn't see the sign went to the finish, only to be told by Phil that they had to go back and give all their money to the orphanage before they could check in. Cindy completely lost control of herself at this point and began crying like a maniac even though they were in first place and were clearly not the only team that missed the sign. If I were Ernie, I would've ended the relationship right there. Almost equally as annoying was the sister of the brother/sister combo, who is constantly yelling at her brother for nothing and claimed she was going to pass out if he made her run anymore, as though he was torturing her for fun instead of trying to win the reality show she signed up for.
The order got kind of messy with so many teams having to go back and whatnot, but the snowboarders ended up finishing first, and the Survivor couple and the gay flight service coordinators finished last and were eliminated.
Here is my favorite scene from the episode. It's hard to see, but there are 4 people on that scooter, including two children. The child in front of the driver is definitely safe, but I'm not so sure about just holding the baby up behind him...does that make it safe? As a former scooter owner (and one who had a serious crash), I'm going to say that is not recommended.
